A derotation boot is a rigid plastic bandage for rigid fixation of the ankle joint in a stationary state. Also, such a boot also performs the function of a fixator of the hip joint in bedridden patients.
Features of derotational boot plastic for ankle joint:
- ankle brace is made in the form of a plastic boot with an open front panel;
- the ability to adjust the fixation angles helps to determine the correct position of the foot and lower leg, to fix them in this state;
- universal plastic boot suitable for injuries and can be modified for bedridden patients;
- securely and tightly fixes the leg in a stationary state;
- the derotation boot has a fabric soft lining containing natural cotton, which comfortably wraps around the leg and does not cut into the skin;
- the rigid level of fixation is regulated by means of sticky fasteners-harnesses;
- the kit comes with a special bar for bedridden patients, which can be attached or removed from the derotation boot with the help of a fastener;
- an additional plastic strap for bedridden patients helps to fix the leg in the correct position, the leg cannot scroll or fall sideways;
- universal, suitable for left and right foot.
The principle of the derotation boot
The retainer is attached in the area of the ankle joint, but it has an effect on the entire leg. In this form, the derotation boot acts as a leg brace or a hip brace. Rigidly and motionlessly fixing the ankle joint, the boot turns the entire leg into the correct position. This is very important for patients with hip injuries and trochanteric fractures.
In the case of hip arthroplasty in the postoperative period, the leg must be held with a derotation boot in a well-defined position in order for the implanted joint to be fixed correctly.
Indications for the use of a derotation boot
- with injuries, fractures, dislocations and subluxations of the hip joint in bedridden patients, with trochanteric fractures;
- pathological instability of the ankle joint (after injuries and operations or as a result of diseases);
- Achilles bursitis, tendovaginitis, arthrosis and arthritis of the ankle and foot;
- the period of rehabilitation after plaster casts with immobilization of the foot;
- partial damage to the Achilles tendon;
- as a night splint with sagging foot;
- recommended in the postoperative period after the installation of a hip prosthesis in bedridden patients (after arthroplasty);
- prescribed for paralysis and paresis of the lower extremities of any origin in bedridden patients;
- used in the period of rehabilitation after a stroke to fix the legs in bedridden patients;
- for fixing the foot and ankle joint in a functional position in all groups of patients.
